Springdale News:

The following are articles reprinted from newspapers about Springdale. Thanks to the Mount Horeb Mail for permission to reprint these news stories.

They obviously didn't come to quibble about how the town had spent their tax money over the past year or even to bring up "any other business". But come they did, filling almost every seat in the tiny Springdale town hall.

Almost 60 residents were present for last week's annual meeting. Even outgoing Town Board Chair Karl Hacker, presiding over his last meeting looked surprised.

"What a great turnout!" he exclaimed.

He was even more surprised when, less than ten minutes later, the meeting was over.

In record speed Springdale electors approved last year's minutes and the 2000 Financial Report and moved to adjourn.

Immediately following adjournment, Supervisor Richard Schwenn presented Hacker and outgoing.

Supervisor Steve Burns with Certificates of Appreciation for their dedicated service to the township. The certificates were signed by the new board officers: Town Board Chair Ed Eloranta and Supervisor Steve Albert; and Supervisor Richard Schwenn.

To a question about what he would do now with all his free time, he replied, "I'm not going away. I've lived here most of my life and don't plan to move. I'll be here as a citizen, at board meetings and plan commission meetings. I can't stay away. It's in my blood."

Eloranta offered some thoughts about taking over the chairmanship.

"There will be some changes," he said. "Public input will be actively sought, throughout the meetings with each agenda item open to discussion. Tables and chairs will be arranged differently, to put the people closer to the board. The Land Use Plan will be revised. We'll have open meetings and try to come to some sort of consensus on the plan that everyone can live with."
